The special operation group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad police on Thursday busted a racket printing fake Australian dollars and arrested four persons, including an Indian origin Australian citizen.
The suspects have been identified as Ronak Chetanbhai Rathod, Khush Ashokbhai Patel, Maulik Shankarbhai Patel and Dhruv Himanshu Desai. The police have seized 151 fake Australian notes in 50 dollar denomination and 18 sheets of counterfeit currency….
According to FIR, one Rakesh Vaghela informed the police that his friend Rakesh Parmar, who runs a salon in Vejalpur locality in the city, was contacted by a customer identified as Ronak Rathod saying that he had a lot of Australian dollars and wanted to sell them at Rs 40 per dollar against its market price of Rs 55.
The FIR states that the salon owner reportedly sensed that Rathod was a fraud, and contacted his friend Vaghela who in turn contacted the SOG.
The police said the accused downloaded the picture of currency notes from Google. They have been booked for attempting to commit crime, counterfeiting currencies, possession of forged or counterfeit currencies.
