In the last three years, as many as 609 accused have faced conviction in Gujarat in cases of crimes against minors, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), according to a government statement.
The police department also gave cash awards worth over Rs 12 lakh to 1,345 officers, including Mahila police, for their “commendable work” in investigation of such cases.
Of the total POCSO cases, women police officers aided in investigation of 413 of them, some leading to death penalties, the statement said. Police chief Vikas Sahay congratulated the officers who won cash rewards for this “exemplary work”, the statement added.
