A jewellery shop owner and one his employees were injured after three men, who had entered their premises for robbery, attacked them with knives in Surat on Friday, police said. The accused later fled from the spot with only six silver rings, amounting to less than Rs 10,000
One of the robbers was caught by the local residents and handed over to the police. The condition of the jewellery shop owner and his assistant is said to be stable, said police. According to officers, three masked men entered the Shantilal Jewellery Shop at Bhestan main road area.
At first, the trio asked shop owner Shantilal Shah to show them a few rings. However, after a few minutes, two of them fished out knives and threatened Shah along with assistant Banshilal Gurjar against raising an alarm, said officers. As the robbers began taking away some jewellery, Shah and Gurjar protested following which the accused attacked them on the neck, they added.
Bhestan police staff arrived at the spot and shifted the shop owner and his employee to Apple Hospital at Udhna Darwaja.
Following Shah’s complaint at Bhestan police station, police have registered a case under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Sections 309 (using deadly weapon or causing grievous hurt to any person), 311 (punishment for belonging to gang of robbers, dacoits, etc.), and 54 (abettor present when the offence is committed).
The accused arrested from the spot has been identified as Amir Ansari, a resident of Limbayat area. Talking ACP Gohil said, “We have caught one of the accused and are questioning him.
