The Waqf Board has made claims on 31 properties owned by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). There are currently 31 cases regarding these properties pending in the Gujarat State Waqf Tribunal. The civic body has ordered the appointment of a special prosecutor for these cases.
Additionally, during the AMC’s legal committee meeting, an order was issued to establish a monitoring committee to oversee the cases filed by the Waqf Board against the AMC. Prakash Gurjar, chairman of the legal committee, stated, “In light of the 31 pending cases against the AMC by the Waqf Board in the tribunal, an order has been given to appoint a senior advocate.”
This is yet another instance of the Waqf Board claiming ownership of government land. In another notable case in the state, the Waqf Board had claimed ownership of the office building of the Surat Municipal Corporation in the old city of Surat.
