Many areas of Gujarat’s Kachch district felt tremors on Thursday morning sending a wave of fear among the residents. People immediately rushed out of their homes. The Seismology Department recorded the earthquake at 4 on the Richter Scale with epicentre 47 Km from Khawda town of Kachch district.
People were reminded of the devastating earthquake of 2001. On Thursday tremors were felt at 3.54 am. According to the local administration, there was no report of casualty or damage. Local people said that the region faces earthquakes of 2 4 intensity in a month. The Ministry of Science appointed Pt Shyamji Krishna Verma of Kachch University in 2015 to carry out the frequent earthquakes hitting the region. The phenomenon is being studied through eight different projects. The Wagad region in Kachch district faces maximum earthquakes. According to a study the South Wagad Faultline and Kachch Main Faultline meet at Wagad, which causes earthquakes in near Rapar, Bhachau areas. The faultline cannot be corrected, leaving alertness the only protection method. Changes in lifestyle and construction work are being paid attention on a priority basis. The pattern of earthquakes is shifting from West to East, the study said.
