Customers in Ahmedabad have purchased travel luggage at a rate ten times higher in the first 48 hours of the ongoing ‘Amazon Great Indian Festival’ compared to typical sales periods, a company representative announced on Tuesday. The city ranked among the top ten in the country for sales of fashion and beauty items.
The Amazon Great Indian Festival, which began on September 27 this year, has reported record-breaking sales for the fashion and beauty sector, with 65% of buyers hailing from tier-2 cities and beyond, according to Zeba Khan, Director of Fashion and Beauty at Amazon India, PTI reported.
During the initial 48 hours of the sale, the e-commerce giant noted that 11 crore customers visited its platform, with 80% coming from tier-2 cities and smaller towns, she added.
“We have witnessed a robust response in specific categories and sectors. Overall, there has been a seven-fold increase in the fashion and beauty segment, with a remarkable ten-fold rise in travel luggage sales, indicating that people are planning trips this season,” she noted.
“In Ahmedabad, sales of precious jewellery have increased by 2.3 times, and there has been significant demand for luxury beauty products, particularly fragrances and salon-quality items,” she continued.
The data also indicates a resurgence in demand for handloom and handicraft items like Bandhani, Patola, Kutch embroidery, Zardozi, and mirror work, Khan highlighted. Contemporary styles that merge traditional and modern aesthetics, such as crop tops paired with ethnic bottoms or pre-draped sarees, are also becoming increasingly popular, according to the official.
Gujarat’s traditional silver jewellery, characterized by intricate designs, has emerged as one of the top purchases during this festive season, she added.
