students of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), who recently lost one of their batchmates, have accused the varsity of insensitivity after it continued routine academic activities, examinations and paper submissions without considering students’ mental well-being.
A first-year GNLU student Tushar Bali died after falling off a hotel building in Bhopal. After the incident, a section of students reached out to GNLU administration with a request to allow them flexibility in taking examinations, submitting papers and other academic activities to ensure their academic track record was not hampered.
The GNLU management on Monday, in the face of an email bombardment from students and a query from Mirror, allowed only first-year students, batch-mates of the deceased Bali, to opt out of the exams before Diwali break and appear for the same in January 2025.
“However, the students who took Tushar to the hospital in Bhopal after the fall are devastated and unable to focus. These were fourth and fifth-year students. Apart from those, the ones who lived with him in the hostel and became friends with him have also been affected. The GNLU administration has not shown any sensitivity or empathy,” said a student.
