Seizes suspected food items worth over Rs 4.5cr : 2,423 inspections conducted.
The Food and Drug Control T Administration (FDCA) Gujarat carried out state-wide raids and seized suspected food items worth more than Rs 4.5 crore. The raids were conducted as part of the Food Safety Fortnight to ensure people get safe & hygienic food items during the upcoming Diwali festivities.
Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said, “The state government is committed to ensure that citizens get pure, safe and quality food items. Of the total 5,486 samples taken so far from the manufacturers, retailers and cold storage warehouses by the FDCA during this Food Safety Fortnight campaign, 1,755 are enforcement samples and 3,731 are surveillance samples.”
“Thus far, 2,423 inspections have been conducted and more than 640 awareness programmes have also been conducted, covering around 56 lakh citizens during Navratri via Food Safety on Wheels at different places in the state,” Patel added.
According to the minister, 45.5 tonnes of suspected ghee worth Rs. 1.39 crore has been seized from Mehsana and Patan, based on the information received by the FDCA Gujarat team.
Hariom Products at Rajratna Estate in Budasan in Kadi was raided for suspected adulteration of ghee from Mehsana.
Raid also found Ambe Spices firm doesn’t have FSSAI licence.
During the on-site inspection, the team also found foreign fat, palmolein oil and ghee which reportedly indicated adulteration of ghee. While six samples were collected
from the spot, 43,100 kg ghee worth Rs 1.25 crore has also been seized. Apart from this, unlabelled ghee
was found from the firm of Nitin kumar Bhailal Gheewala near Teen Darwaja in Patan City, suspected of producing adulterated ghee.
