The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an official reminder to all affiliated schools, stressing the importance of strict compliance with attendance rules for Class X and XII students. In a notice to Principals and Heads of Schools, CBSE reiterated that students must maintain at least 75% attendance to be eligible for the upcoming board exams. The Board emphasized that this requirement is essential not only for academic success but also for the overall development of students.
CBSE Board Exam 2025: Mandatory Attendance Required
CBSE highlighted the pivotal role schools play in shaping students’ holistic development beyond academics. The notice stated, “Schools are not just centers for academic learning but play a critical role in the overall development of students.” The Board emphasized that regular attendance promotes participation in extracurricular activities, peer learning, teamwork, character building, and inclusion—key elements for fostering student growth.
Relaxation in Attendance for Specific Cases
While the 75% attendance rule remains mandatory, CBSE provides a 25% relaxation in special circumstances. This relaxation is applicable in cases of medical emergencies, participation in national or international events, or other serious reasons, provided that valid documentation is submitted. “The Board offers a 25% relaxation only in cases of exigencies such as medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports events, and other serious reasons,” the notice clarified.
CBSE Asks Schools to Communicate This to Parents and Students
The Board has directed schools to inform both students and parents about these attendance requirements and the consequences of non-compliance. Schools must ensure that students and parents are aware of the attendance policies well in advance to avoid any last-minute issues. CBSE also warned that during inspections, if students are found absent without proper leave records, the Board will assume non-compliance with attendance rules and may disqualify such students from taking the examinations.
No Changes Allowed After Submission
CBSE made it clear that once schools submit cases of attendance shortage, no changes will be allowed. The attendance calculation will be based on records as of January 1st of the academic session. Additionally, the Board has provided Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for condoning the shortage of attendance, along with a Proforma that schools must use when submitting such cases.
