The Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s health department inspected units making and selling fafda and jalebis.
A check on Oshwal Restaurant on Ashram Road led to its closure after inspectors found the kitchen to be dirty. It took five hours of cleaning in the presence of health officials before the restaurant was allowed to reopen.
AMC also fined the restaurant Rs 20,000. Samples of kadhi, fafda and jalebi have been sent for testing. Chandravilas Restaurant and Gwalior Restaurant were also inspected and food samples collected for testing.
On the first two nights of Navratri, teams checked food units across the city apart from garba venues. Ganthiya Rath in Maninagar was sealed and notices issued to 66 units. A stock of 1,365kg of halwa and 1,950kg of sweets were seized.
