The heavy rains in Ahmedabad resulted in the Bopal lake overflowing with water gushing into the garden and children’s play area. This also created inconvenience for visitors and nearby residents.
Rumours were abuzz that the Bopal lake’s wall had collapsed due to heavy rains resulting in water overflowing into the areas close to the lake.
The North West Zone of the AMC also sent a team to look into the matter after locals gathered in big numbers at the lake and called the AMC officials for help. The overflowing had resulted in fish from the lake also getting out.
Residents said AUDA built the lake in 2013 and in 2021 the area was merged with the AMC. However, the lake has been deteriorating in the last decade and needs redevelopment. “Since we got to know about the incident, we sent out a team that also rescued the fish and put it back in the lake. The Bopal lake overflows during heavy rains and the children’s play area also gets waterlogged,” an AMC official said. He said the civic body has planned the redevelopment of the lake but it will happen after the monsoon is over and the water level recedes.
