Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda, shared her thoughts on dealing with social media trolls following her admission to the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad. Speaking at the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2024 on Thursday, Navya expressed both gratitude for the opportunities that social media provides and acknowledged the challenges it brings.
“Social media has been a great platform because it’s given a lot of people a voice, a lot of people who previously might not have that kind of reach,” Navya shared during a session titled, ‘Beyond the Legacy: Gen Z for a Just and Equal India.’
She emphasised how social media can drive change, stating, “I think it’s a great place for me as an individual to put my work out there. It’s been a great tool that, if used in the right way, has a lot of potential to bring about a change.”
Reflecting on her academic journey, Navya expressed her gratitude for being part of IIM Ahmedabad. “India has some of the finest institutions in the world, and being a part of IIM Ahmedabad is incredible. I feel fortunate to receive higher education under the guidance of some of the finest professors in the world,” she said.
Navya, who is also known for her social initiative, Project Naveli, talked about the importance of public feedback. “If I consider myself to be working for people, I don’t think I can be offended by what they say. It’s essential for me to look at feedback; it will only make me a better person, better entrepreneur, and a better Indian,” she explained.
Addressing the criticism she often faces, Navya acknowledged her privileged background, stating, “I accept that I come from a very different lived reality. People will have something to say about that.” However, she emphasised that her focus remains on her personal and professional goals, adding that her responsibility is to her work and self-improvement.
“I don’t give a lot of thought to what people say negatively; I use it to do the best I can in my journey,” she concluded.
