Following the suspected suicide of second-year MBA student Akshith Bhukya, 24, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has cancelled its annual management symposium, The Red Brick Summit (TRBS). The three-day event scheduled to begin on Friday was being coordinated by Bhukya.
“We regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the entire TRBS 2024 event has been called off. We understand that this decision may cause inconvenience and disappointment, and we sincerely apologize for any disruption this may create in your plans,” the IIMA announced.
Bhukya, who hailed from Warangal in Telangana, was found dead on Thursday after students broke open the door to his hostel room. While the police were informed about his death at 3.45 pm, Bhukya is said to have died between 10 am and 3 pm. No suicide note has been found yet.
“Bhukya was the chief coordinator of The Red Brick Summit. His colleagues said that he was stressed about the same. No foul play is suspected at the moment, however, we are awaiting the results of forensics from his mobile device,” Shivam Varma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-7, Ahmedabad, said.
Bhukya’s body was sent to GMERS Sola Civil Hospital for a postmortem. His parents arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning.
The Red Brick Summit was to feature Gautam Adani, the founder and chairman of Adani Group, as the keynote speaker.
