Over 10,000 cases of viral infections have been reported in Ahmedabad. Both private and municipal hospitals overwhelmed by patients. Municipal Urban Health Centres (UHCs) are experiencing long queues for laboratory tests, with results for dengue taking two to four days.
The seasonal transition has led to a surge in cases of cold, cough and fever. Swine flu, now referred to as ‘seasonal flu’ by the health department, is also on the rise, with new variants emerging. In one case, a municipal official and their family contracted swine flu, and blood tests identified a new H3 variant. Since the family is unable to visit the hospital, they are receiving treatment at home.

Numerous municipal employees and officials have been affected by malaria, dengue and chickenpox during the monsoon season. UHCs are reporting between 60 to 80 fever cases daily, including viral fever, malaria and dengue. Private clinics are also seeing a surge in patients. However, there are reports that health centre staff are underreporting cases to avoid additional workload of conducting house-to-house inspections.
