Ahmedabad is grappling with a dengue outbreak, with 282 cases being reported in just 14 days of which 152 are children. The alarming surge includes 16 infants under the age of one while the highest number of dengue patients (57) are in the 9 to 14 age group.
In addition to dengue, 22 cases of chikungunya, 47 cases of malaria, and 4 cases of toxic malaria have also been registered this month. The health department has, in response to the outbreak, collected serum samples from over 6,000 individuals for further analysis.
The city is also witnessing a rise in waterborne diseases with 303 cases of typhoid, 267 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, 226 cases of jaundice, and two cases of cholera being reported in 14 days so far. From the 2,883 water samples tested, 49 were found unfit for consumption.
