The victim, Govind Singh, originally from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, worked as a security guard at Shashwat Apartments in South Bopal. His brother, Jaswant, also employed as a guard in the same residential complex, filed a police complaint stating that around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Govind had gone to a nearby paan shop to buy tobacco. Moments later, Jaswant heard the sound of a vehicle braking after hitting something. He rushed to the scene, where he found Govind unconscious and bleeding profusely. Govind was transported to Sola Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jaswant reported that Govind had been struck by a speeding car while crossing the road.
Bopal police initially filed charges for causing death by negligent driving, rash driving, and endangering lives under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, against an unidentified person. Ahmedabad rural police traced the car by its registration number, revealing it belonged to a builder from Bapunagar. Further investigation revealed that the builder’s son had been driving the vehicle.
“The accused is 17 years and eight months old. His father permitted him to take the car to a friend’s birthday party. After the event, the boy drove at high speed through South Bopal, lost control, and hit the security guard,” a senior police officer stated. A separate FIR will be registered against the juvenile’s father, who will also face arrest.
