The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad rural police arrested a 30-year-old man, Swarjeet Roy, from Koth village on Tuesday for allegedly practicing medicine without a valid medical degree.
Roy, originally from the 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, had been running a clinic from a rented house in the village for about 1.5 years, despite only completing his education up to Class 12.
Following a tip-off, the SOG raided Roy’s clinic and caught him red-handed. During the raid, the police seized medicines and medical equipment valued at Rs 15,139. Roy was booked under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners’ Act. A senior SOG officer revealed that Roy previously worked as a housekeeper at a government hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where he began administering injections and medicines to patients. After being dismissed from the hospital, Roy moved to Ahmedabad, acquired medical supplies, and started offering medical services in Koth.
