The Anandnagar police have filed an FIR against three individuals who allegedly impersonated CBI officers and assaulted the complainant and his friends at a club on the SG Highway.
The incident, which occurred on the second floor of the club, came to light through social media and a video of the three suspects fleeing in a car, was captured by the complainant.
The FIR, registered by Sumit Khanwani, a filmmaker residing in Hansol, names Dhanraj Rathod, Vijaysinh Parmar, and Virendrasinh Chavda under various sections of the law, including impersonating a public servant, voluntarily causing hurt, and abettor present when offence is committed.
According to Khanwani’s complaint, he received a call on Sep 2 from a person identifying himself as Grimar Joshi, who requested an advertisement for his life science startup, Kavach. A meeting was scheduled for the following day at the club.
Khanwani arrived at the club at about 9.30pm with two friends and went to a room on the second floor for discussion on the proposal.
Soon, the doorbell rang, and three unidentified individuals forced their way into the room, shouting “raid, raid CBI”. They demanded everyone surrender their mobile phones, but Khanwani and his friends refused to do so.
When Khanwani questioned the three and asked for their identification, one of them allegedly slapped him. As he demanded to step outside and talk, the three assaulted him and threatened to plant a bottle resembling liquor and a packet of white powder and register a case against him. Khanwani began recording a video, and he and his friends managed to escape, capturing footage of the three suspects fleeing in a car.
After submitting an application to the Anandnagar police on the same day, Khanwani discovered that the car belonged to Dhanraj Rathod. Through social media searches, he identified Rathod and the other two suspects as Vijaysinh Parmar and Virendrasinh Chavda. Khanwani stated that Parmar had slapped him, and Chavda had shown an ID.
