In the wake of relentless flooding across several districts, the state has intensified rescue and relief operations in Gujarat. Additional Army, NDRF, and SDRF teams were deployed on Aug 28, leading to the successful rescue of thousands who had been stranded due to flooding and waterlogging. Relief efforts, including food distribution and medical assistance, continue as the state grapples with the widespread impact of the floods.
Vadodara
Deployed:
Three additional Army columns, one NDRF team, one SDRF team.
Rescue efforts:
Over 1,200 people rescued, 6,000 sheltered. Food preparation underway with over one lakh food packets, supported by social and religious organisations.
Notable ops:
A pregnant woman and her husband were safely rescued from floodwaters in Savli Road, Sama, by NDRF and fire brigade teams. Families living in Subhash Nagar near the Vishwamitri have been shifted to an intermediate school after their houses flooded.
Porbandar
Morana village:
Successful rescue operation at three locations by the Indian Navy.
Ranavav taluka:
A pregnant woman was swiftly transported to a health center after a tree fell, blocking the road.
Devbhumi Dwarka
Khambhalia Nagarpalika:
50 people rescued from flooding in Ward No. 1, by state administration and Indian Army.
Khambhalia taluka:
Fire department rescued around 25 people from low-lying areas.
Jamrawal Nagarpalika:
13 civilians evacuated.
Off Dwarka coast:
13 fishermen rescued by the Indian Coast Guard after their boat experienced a technical failure.
Other relief efforts:
16 people rescued, 548 citizens relocated, 2,065 food packets distributed.
Jamnagar
Rescue:
SDRF team rescued 24 people from Vibhapar and Nathuvadla villages; two additional Army teams deployed.
Support:
30 organisations aiding government efforts. Approximately 7,000 food packets distributed.
Ongoing operations: Around 83 people, including 28 children, were trapped in a field amid flowing water in Balambha village.
Rajkot
One additional team from the Army and another from NDRF engaged in rescue and relief ops, along with assistance from Rajkot district authorities.
Botad
Animal Welfare:
2,000 cattle cared for in Ranpur Mahajan Panjarapol under guidance from Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer.
Narmada
Maternal Health:
Eight pregnant women from remote areas transported to health centers; one birth occurred under difficult conditions with assistance from health workers in Dediapada taluka.
Bharuch
Health Surveillance:
412 teams conducted operations in rural and flood-affected areas; 374 people were treated on the spot by seven medical teams.
Valsad
Animal Health:
Vaccinations and de-worming medicines distributed to prevent disease spread after floodwaters receded; 205 heads of cattle relocated to safer areas.
With ongoing operations and support, the situation is gradually improving. However, with the monsoon continuing to batter the state, challenges remain in the days ahead.
