The Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) Gujarat has announced a revised fee structure for 19 medical colleges, including private institutions and those run by municipal corporations. The new fees, applicable for the academic year 2024-25, represent a significant increase in the cost of medical education, with various colleges hiking fees by anywhere from 2% to a staggering 25%. On average, the announced fee hike is a hefty 12%.
For government seats, the fee has risen between modest Rs 10,000 and substantial Rs 2.44 lakh. Meanwhile, for those seeking admission through the management quota, the fee has skyrocketed between Rs 24,000 and an eye-popping Rs 5.25 lakh.
Notably, Parul University in Vadodara now has the highest fee for government seats at Rs 10 lakh, while its management seat fee is Rs 19.50 lakh. Narendra Modi Medical College in Ahmedabad holds the dubious distinction of having the highest fee of Rs 23 lakh for management quota and government seat for Rs 9.14 lakh.
This is followed closely by NHL Municipal Medical College with Rs 22.88 lakh fee for the management seat and Rs 7.41 lakh fee for government seat. CU Shah Medical College has also seen a fee hike — Rs 20 lakh for management seat and Rs 8.70 lakh for government seat. Additionally, Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research has fees of Rs 19.96 lakh for the management quota and Rs 8.95 lakh for government quota.
Pramukhswami Medical College in Anand has one of the highest fees among medical colleges, with government seat fee set at Rs 10 lakh and management quota fee at Rs 19.91 lakh. The ND Desai Faculty of Medical Science & Research in Nadiad will now charge Rs 9.81 lakh for a government seat and Rs 22.50 lakh for a management seat. Dr MK Shah Medical College and Research Centre also has significant fees — Rs 9.66 lakh for a government seat and Rs 19.32 lakh for management quota seat.
Earlier, GMERS Medical College also announced a significant fee hike, which is now being followed by these private institutions. Notably, CU Shah Medical College, Surendranagar, has seen the highest increase for government seats at Rs 2.44 lakh, while the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research has seen the highest hike of Rs 5.14 lakh for management quota seats.
