The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch arrested Rajendrasinh Solanki, 58, and his wife Geetaba for bootlegging. Rajendra singh is an accused in several bootlegging cases and was involved in the murder of a journalist at Riverfront in 2013. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment following which his wife took over his business.
Rajendra singh was into bootlegging for a long time and in 2013 murdered Navin Barot, a journalist on the Riverfront. Barot had threatened to publish a report about Rajendrasinh’s activities.
Rajendra singh was nabbed for the murder and a court sent him to 10 years of imprisonment. “His wife Geetaba then took over the bootlegging business and was wanted in several cases of prohibition in Odhav.
some time ago, Rajendra singh was released on parole for 14 days from the Ahmedabad Central Jail on the pretext of getting treated for a heart ailment. However, he never returned and the couple began to run their bootlegging business with the help of bootleggers from Rajasthan. Geetaba delivered the liquor to clients as police would not suspect a woman.
On Sunday we got a tip-off that both husband and wife, who used to live at Adinathnagar in Odhav, were near Setu Ameralad Flats at Naroda. We dispatched a team and caught both of them. Rajendra singh was sent to Central Jail while Geetaba was handed over to Odhav police as she is an accused in several cases under the Prohibition Act.
