A fire erupted early this morning in a flat on the third floor of Siddhashila Apartment on Barrage Road in the Paldi area of Ahmedabad. The blaze was triggered by an electric vehicle battery that exploded due to a short circuit while charging in the main drawing room. As the fire rapidly engulfed the house, the residents were forced to seek refuge on the bedroom window ledge to escape the flames.
The fire brigade was alerted, and the team from Jamalpur Fire Station responded swiftly. Upon arrival, they found two women and a young man, identified as Teerth Shah (20), Khushi Shah (16), and Bhumika Shah (45), trapped on the window ledge. Using a ladder, the fire brigade team rescued the three individuals and brought the fire under control.
According to the fire brigade, the control room received the emergency call around 5 a.m., reporting the fire and the people trapped inside. Station Officer Santosh Patel of Jamalpur Fire Station immediately dispatched a team to the scene. The team saw the three individuals in the window space on the third floor and began the rescue operation while also working to contain the blaze.
Station Officer Patel explained that the fire started in the main drawing room, where the electric vehicle battery had been placed near the TV for charging. The explosion led to the fire spreading throughout the bedroom, destroying furniture, including the TV. The residents had managed to close the bedroom door, which helped limit the smoke’s impact.
The fire was eventually brought under control with water hoses. No casualties were reported. Ellisbridge MLA and city BJP president Amit Shah arrived at the scene shortly after hearing the fire brigade’s sirens.
