The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) decided to install Automatic Boom Barriers (gates) with sensors at 19 underbridges throughout the city. During heavy rains, these underpasses are forced to close due to the inundation of rainwater.
AMC plans to operate the automatic gates without the presence of personnel, using level sensors that activate when water reaches a point where vehicles cannot pass.
AMC is utilizing technology to ensure that motorists do not experience inconvenience due to rainwater in the city’s underbridges. CCTV cameras, automatic level sensors, and boom barriers will be installed in 19 underbridges across the city. As a pilot project, level sensors and boom barriers have already been installed in the Akhbarnagar underbridge in the Nava Wadaj area. An advertisement has been issued to invite proposals from agencies to install this system in 19 additional underbridges.
The underbridges that will get automatic sensor-level installations include: Parimal Underbridge, Jalaram Underbridge, Mitakhali Underbridge, Stadium Underbridge, Usmanpura Underbridge, Nirmannagar Underbridge, Maninagar (South) Underbridge, Kubernagar Underbridge, Shahibaug Underbridge
It is learnt that boom barriers will be installed alongside automatic level sensors and cameras, which will be monitored online. The sensors will determine the water level in the underbridges during heavy rains. Boom barriers installed on both sides of the underbridge will automatically close through these sensors in case of impassable conditions. A separate software application will also be created for this purpose, which will include an alert and alarm system.
An alarm will sound whenever the underbridge floods and impassable conditions occur. A public addressing system will also be installed, along with a separate dashboard for monitoring this system.
