Gujarat University Executive Council decided to allow colleges to start four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in the allied courses. In one of the three important decisions approved by the varsity’s EC, the colleges will have to pay increased one-time affiliation fees and yearly fees of RS 80,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.
Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta said that the decision is to allow colleges to expand the bouquet of courses it offers and also to shift to BS courses.
“For example, if a college is already offering a Bachelor of Commerce, it may opt to start a course like Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Computer Application, be it a three-year course or a four-year BS course. Similarly, allied courses will be allowed in other streams also like arts and science colleges,” she said.
The decision is also taken after courses like BBA, BCA and BS have witnessed an increased interest among takers, and the majority of the colleges offering these courses had to increase the number of seats. “The rules and regulations concerning number of seats apart from others remain the same,” added Gupta.
In other two decisions, the GU meeting finalized the tender for the house-keeping on the campus and work related to examination has also been assigned.
