Taking note of the recent incidents of heavy rains and difficulties being faced by citizens due to waterlogging, a bench of the Gujarat High Court has suggested that the state government make a policy for road construction as per an average daily rainfall of four inches or more
The HC bench comprising justice AY Kogje and justice Samir Dave made the suggestion while hearing a petition filed by advocate Amit Panchal for taking action against the Amdavad Municipal Corporation and other government officials for non-compliance of the earlier order related to broken roads, traffic congestions, parking issues and stray cattle. On Thursday, the AMC filed its reply about the steps taken for a proper road network.
The court took note of downpour in several regions of the state. It observed that even four inches of rain create problems for the citizens, which needs to be addressed. If there is a cloud burst with 20-inch rain, the situation can be understood but consider the four-inch average rainfall and make the policy accordingly.
