Over 4.90 lakh Gujaratis stranded abroad brought home since COVID-19

Amid the anti-reservation protests in Bangladesh that turned violent, 14 Gujarati students pursuing medical studies in Bangladesh were safely repatriated to Gujarat.

Apart from Bangladesh, the Government of India has also conducted rescue operations to bring back citizens stranded due to various natural and man-made disasters since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 4,92,701 Gujaratis have been safely evacuated from the distress situation worldwide.

The ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, with special evacuation flights being operated to safely repatriate Indians stranded across the globe.

Additionally, on June 11, 2020, 233 Gujarati fish farmers were repatriated safely aboard the INS Shardul and quarantined on the Porbandar port. 42 Gujaratis were also safely brought back from Pakistan via the Wagah Border during the pandemic.

The Government of India also launched ‘Operation Ganga’ to bring back Indians stranded in Ukraine amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Under this mission, 1,386 non-resident Gujaratis who went to Ukraine for their studies were safely brought back to Gujarat.

‘Operation Kaveri’ helped 569 Gujaratis Stranded in Sudan, while ‘Operation Ajay’
