Yet another fake officer of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has emerged in the city. Rupesh Doshi, a resident of South Bopal, has been accused of fraud for convincing various Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials to provide him with dinners and other services from 2019 to 2024, all while pretending to be a special duty officer from the PMO.
Amit Patel, an AMC food safety inspector, approached the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police after Rupesh Doshi, who resides in Marigold Apartments in South Bopal, repeatedly instructed him to make dinner reservations and procure food for him and his associates. Doshi is accused of assuring people of government contracts and promising government officers favorable postings in exchange for money. The police are investigating the amount of money the accused extorted and the number of victims involved.
In the FIR with the DCB Police, Patel alleged that Doshi was impersonating a senior officer in various government offices, including ‘secret services.’ Patel alone paid Rs 18,300 for Doshi’s and his aides’ food bills. Doshi’s most recent service request was on July 13, according to Patel’s FIR. Doshi’s escalating demands for additional services, such as vehicles and hotel accommodations, prompted Amit to investigate further, revealing that other AMC officials had also been deceived by Doshi.
Doshi is currently on the run, and police have filed a complaint of cheating against him.
In a similar case earlier, conman Kiran Patel impersonated a special duty officer of the PMO, receiving VVIP services and Z-plus security in Kashmir. Patel was arrested in Srinagar and later faced charges in three different cases in Ahmedabad city.
