Gujarat’s Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai launched a Face Authentication Application for Aadhaar-Based Identity Verification, introducing this service at GST Seva Kendras across the state in a event held at Rajya Kar Bhavan in Ahmedabad today.
Addressing the gathering, the Finance Minister underscored Gujarat’s proactive adoption of GST laws, which has resulted in a notable increase in GST returns and registrations. He launched the Aadhaar-based identity verification service through face authentication, designed to streamline the process of obtaining GST registration numbers. This initiative aims to mitigate GST-related irregularities and fraudulent billing practices, ensuring swift issuance of registration numbers following personal verification at GST Service Centers.
Previously selected by the central government for a pilot rollout, Gujarat has already established GST Seva Kendras in 12 locations within just 75 days. Applicants can now visit these centers by booking convenient time slots, completing the necessary processes in under 20 minutes.
Since the implementation of GST in 2017, Gujarat has witnessed a 135% growth in its taxpayer base by July 2024, with GST revenue doubling in five years. Additional Chief Secretary Mr. J.P. Gupta (IAS), Chief Commissioner of State Taxes Mr. Samir Vakil (IRS), and GST department officials attended the launch event.
