The Ahmedabad city police arrested Ramesh Bhagora, 19, and his friend Kapil Ahari, 22, from Dungarpur for stealing several sports bikes from Vastrapur and other areas in the city. Kapil lives in Vastrapur but belongs to Dungarpur. During interrogation, cops found out that Ramesh took to bike thieving to impress girls in his village in Dungarpur.
Ramesh and Kapil used to work as masons at different construction sites and often saw young couples on sports bikes. Since Ramesh wanted to impress girls in his village in Dungarpur he realised that a bike would do the trick. He then began to steal the bikes and roped in his friend Kapil in the business. Interestingly, Ramesh flaunted his stolen bikes in his village and the girls were indeed impressed. He began to show off all the bikes that he had stolen and created an impression that he was a big shot in Ahmedabad who was raking in big money.
The police, however, began to chase the bike thieves as the number of bike thefts in posh areas of western Ahmedabad surged. PSI HH Jadeja of Zone-1 LCB gathered CCTV footage of spots where the sports bikes were stolen and spotted two guys who only stole such bikes. Soon cops zeroed in on Ramesh and Kapil of Dungarpur in Rajasthan and found they worked in the city as masons.
Police then found that the two were in Dungarpur and rushed a team to arrest them.
“We have recovered seven sports bikes from the accused and suspect that they might have stolen many more. They stole five bikes from Vastrapur and two from Gandhinagar. The duo also used to sell off the stolen bikes to earn quick money,” said PSI Jadeja.
Police said during primary interrogation it came to light that the two had hired one Pappu who specialises in opening locked bikes. Police sources said Pappu used a single wire to open locked bikes. The duo even stole a sports bike owned by the son of a retired police official.
