A 26-year-old woman allegedly killed her 10-month-old daughter by slitting her throat with a blade at her house in Astodia on Saturday evening.
Gaekwad Haveli police booked Rizwana Vadnagarwala, the mother, for murder.
According to the FIR filed by her husband Aamin Vadnagarwala, 30, who works at a cloth printing unit in Jamalpur, Rizwana was not happy in the marriage and wanted to marry another man. She thought her daughter Fatima was a hurdle and decided to eliminate her. The family lived in Jasubha ni Gali locality of Kadva Sheri in Astodia.
Aamin and Rizwana got married in 2022 and became parents to a girl last year. When Aamin was away at work on Saturday, his mother Sairabano called him around 6.45pm to inform him that Fatima was bleeding from the throat.
Rizwana and neighbours rushed her to VS Hospital in Ellisbridge. When Aamin reached the hospital, a doctor told him that a deep gash on Fatima’s throat, suspected to have been inflicted with a blade, led to her death.
When Aamin grilled Rizwana about the incident, she told him that since she was not happy in the marriage, she wanted to get a divorce and remarry. As Fatima seemed the only hurdle in her plan, she decided to kill her.
Aamin said in the FIR that Rizwana took Fatima to the bathroom on the pretext of giving her a bath and slit her throat with a blade from Aamin’s shaving kit. When the other family members heard the child scream, they ran to the bathroom and found her bleeding severely. They then took her to VS Hospital.
Gaekwad Haveli police have registered a complaint of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A team of forensic experts reached Aamin’s house to collect evidence.
