A major accident took place this evening on the highway connecting Samgahan to Saputara. In the accident, a luxury bus carrying around 65 passengers veered into a valley while overtaking a truck. Out of the 65 passengers on board, two children have died and around 22 are reportedly injured. The condition of six passengers is serious, with two referred to Ahva Civil Hospital and four to Surat Civil Hospital.
A passenger from Surat said, “While we were returning home, the bus driver overtook a truck. During this maneuver, the bus suddenly went off the road into the valley. There were 18 of us traveling together, but a total of 65 people were on board the bus.”
The accident was so severe that the bus overturned. Following the incident, police and fire rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. Currently, the operation to rescue those trapped in the valley is ongoing. The injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. Vijaybhai Patel, Deputy Chief Whip of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, also reached the hospital following the incident.
With the help of JCB and cranes, the luxury bus is being pulled out of the valley. The deceased children from Surat have been identified as Atifa Arfaq Shaikh (7) and Asfakh Shaikh (3).
