A 22-year-old youth lost his life after a fierce blaze enveloped his family’s home in German Venya bungalows of Bhat village in Gandhinagar district on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Aditya.
Aditya’s mother had left boiling milk unattended on the stove at 8am. The milk spilled over and extinguished the flame. Not realising that the stove knob had not been turned off, she tried to light the stove with the lighter. However, by then the gas from the stove had already filled the room. The spark from the lighter resulted in a huge fire. The woman, her husband and daughter managed to get out of the house in time.
Aditya was sleeping on the first floor at that time. The fire soon spread to other rooms and Aditya could not get out on time. A team from the Gandhinagar Fire Services broke the grill of the balcony. However, they could not save Aditya.
The fire was so fierce that it took firefighters more than six and a half hours to bring it under control.
