A brief violent clash erupted today at the State Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad as BJP and Congress workers engaged in stone-pelting. The clash erupted over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “anti-Hindu remark” in the parliament a day ago which was protested by BJP cadres, while the Congress cadres came into its defense. The confrontation resulted in injuries to several individuals involved.
The BJP Youth wing acadres arrived at the Congress office to protest Rahul Gandhi’s statement, leading to a confrontation between BJP and Congress workers. The situation escalated in the presence of police, resulting in stone pelting between the two groups. Glass bottles were hurled during the altercation, prompting scuffles to erupt among the opposing party workers.
Following the protests, a substantial number of police convoys were deployed, but the situation deteriorated further. Reports confirm that some policemen were also injured during the face-to-face stone-pelting incident. Some protesters who sustained injuries have been admitted to SVP Hospital for treatment.
Earlier, in the night Bajrang Dal cadres had rushed to the State Congress headquarters and defaced Rahul Gandhi’s posters with black ink. They too were protesting Rahul Gandhi’s same remark “against Hindus”.
