Students with placards took the roads across India, including Gujarat, for justice amid the NEET (The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) results controversy.
Today, a large number of students in Rajkot protested, holding banners against taking the NEET-UG exam again. A NEET-UG candidate expressed, “I have scored 682 marks in the NEET-UG exam. There should not be another NEET exam because I have achieved these marks through rigorous hard work. Students who have scored less than 600 marks are demanding a re-examination. It is not possible to retake the exam after almost two and a half months. These people are playing with our future.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has handed over cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct extensive investigations into alleged irregularities in examinations, as per sources.
A complaint regarding the irregularities in this exam was registered at Gujarat’s Godhra Taluka Police Station on May 8, 2024.
In order to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter, the state government has decided to hand over the investigation of the FIR registered at Godhra Taluka Police Station to the CBI.
This investigation has been entrusted to the CBI under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
The Home Department of the State Government has also issued a notification in this regard.
Moreover, a day before the NEET-UG retest, on June 22, the Centre removed the chief of the National Testing Agency (NTA) Subodh Kumar Singh.
Notably, the NEET-UG 2024 examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) over 5 days in May. The results were announced on June 4.
Following the result announcement, controversies arose regarding irregularities and allegations of paper leaks. It was later found that 67 students had topped the exam with 720 marks. Subsequently, the Supreme Court granted permission for the re-examination of over 1,500 students, who were to be awarded grace marks.
