Amid concerns about the safety of students travelling in school vans, two students fell from a speeding van in Vadodara on Friday. This incident was captured on the CCTV of the Tulsi Shyam Society in the Makarpura area which went viral on social media, prompting cops to investigate and arrest the driver, Prateek Padhiyar.
The footage showed two female students falling from the back door of the speeding school van as it passed through the society. The two students suffered serious injuries. Residents of Tulsi Shyam Society provided first aid to the injured students.
The owner of the vehicle was identified as Jignesh Joshi. The driver told cops that the backdoor handle of the van was broken which he had reported to the owner but no repairs were carried out. This resulted in the van door opening mid-transit. The incident comes after the state government issued directives to the RTO to take action against overcrowding in school vans.
