June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day. This year’s International Yoga Day program in Gujarat will be held at Point Zero in Nadabet, the border village of Banaskantha. For International Day of Yoga 2024, the theme will be ‘Swayam Ane Samaj Mate Yog’ (Yoga for Self and Society).
The state-level program will be co-organized by the State Government’s Department of Sports, Youth, and Cultural Activities, the Gujarat State Yoga Board, and the Border Security Force (BSF).
Talking to the media today about the event MoS Home, Harsh Sanghvi, said, “For the first time, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will join the program to be held at Point Zero on the border of two nations (India-Pakistan) in Nadabet. Cabinet ministers and officials will participate in various locations across the state.”
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be attending the Yoga Day celebration in Ahmedabad. Union Minister and Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil will preside over the Yoga Day program in Surat,” he added.
MoS Home also stated, “The celebration of this Yoga Day will be organized at 312 prominent locations including 8 municipalities, 32 districts, 251 talukas, and 20 municipalities across Gujarat. Additionally, with the participation of departments ranging from village panchayats to municipal wards, schools, colleges, ITIs, jails, police, health services, and yoga enthusiasts, the entire state of Gujarat will embrace a Yogic environment on this International Yoga Day.”
As of now, over 1.25 crore people have registered to participate in the programs, and around the same number of people are also likely to participate in Yoga Day celebrations in societies and non-registered programs, the minister informed.
It is also noteworthy that over 100 events were organized under the theme of Yog Festival-2024 during the countdown, including camps for the Common Yoga Protocol. Over two and a half lakh people have participated in these events so far. Also, more than 22,000 children have benefited from yoga-sanskar camps at over 200 locations, through summer camps designed to promote yoga practice among children.
