The school vans across Gujarat will go on an indefinite strike from June 18 until they receive legal permits from the authorities. This decision was finalised in a meeting held on Sunday by the leaders of the School Wardhi Association. The association claimed its members have been struggling to obtain fitness certificates and clearances for their vehicles for the past four years. They are also dissatisfied with the government’s new guidelines for school transport vehicles.
The state government has increased inspections of school vehicles. The latest guidelines warn of strict action against non-compliance, prompting the association to strategise on Sunday.
The association has urged parents to support their cause, claiming they are being unfairly harassed by the government. The strike will force parents to drop off and pick up their children from school until it is resolved.
