University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that starting from the 2024-25 academic year, universities will allow students to apply for admission twice a year, aligning with foreign institutions.
According to the news agency PTI, universities will offer admissions twice a year, in July-August and January-February, starting from the 2024-25 session.
To enhance the transition from education to employment, the UGC chief introduced a policy enabling industries to conduct campus hiring twice annually. This move aims to greatly enhance job opportunities for students.
These initiatives are among the measures undertaken by the UGC to overhaul the education sector in India.
In April, the UGC chairman announced that students with four-year undergraduate degrees would have the opportunity to directly take the NET exam and pursue a PhD.
To pursue a PhD degree with or without a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the candidates will require minimum 75 percent marks or equivalent grades in their four-year undergraduate courses.
