The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to experiment with noise barriers aimed at curbing the din from traffic. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed noise barriers on the SG Highway flyover, yielding significant noise reduction in the surrounding areas. The AMC has decided to implement noise barriers on a pilot basis on the Income-Tax flyover and the Thakkarbapa Nagar flyover. The effectiveness of these barriers will be closely monitored to gauge their impact on noise pollution. If the experiment proves successful, Then AMC plan to extend the initiative to other flyovers across the city.
The AMC has already floated tenders for the installation of these barriers on the specified flyovers, with the project estimated to cost Rs 1.82 crore. The tender process is anticipated to be finalized within the next month. Currently, the city hosts a total of 81 flyovers, railway bridges, and river bridges.
