The midnight repair of a faulty electricity line led to violence and loss of electricity in Bavla town of Ahmedabad District, as a group of men thronged the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) office to voice their protest.
A junior engineer in the electric power supply office at Bavla, turned off the electric supply to a section of the town to replace a damaged DP in the modern feeder. After carrying out the replacement work, he turned on the lights. However, a group of men reached the GEB office.
The agitated men tore the hoardings in the office compound and clashed with the staff on duty for the power cut. Since staff carried out the work, they were surrounded by people. The mob threat-ened the staff against any work carried out during nights and switched off the light for the entire town.
The on-duty staff informed Bavla police about the matter, who have booked over 100 people in the case.
