Amidst the sweltering heat and temperatures hovering around 45°C, the people of Gujarat are eagerly awaiting the monsoon.
There is good news with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announcing that the monsoon is likely to reach the state two days ahead of its schedule.
Rains are expected in parts of South Gujarat within a week. The monsoon is expected to begin between June 13 and 15 in the state.
The IMD has predicted that people will get partial relief from the heat in the next two to three days, as winds are expected to blow at a speed of 25 kmph.
During this period, thunderstorms are expected in Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and Kutch. Pre-monsoon activities will also commence by June 7, and the monsoon will commence across the state by June 15.
Reports suggest that scattered rains may occur in the state before the onset of pre-monsoon activities. Despite this, hot weather will prevail in some parts along with strong winds for the next four to five days.
The wind speed is expected to be higher in Kutch and Saurashtra. Meanwhile, the heat and humidity will gradually decrease during this period.
According to the IMD’s forecast, Gujarat’s monsoon is expected to be normal this year.
It is noteworthy that the monsoon arrived in the country on May 30, with Kerala and northeastern states receiving the initial showers.
