The work on the 5.42 km stretch between GNLU (Gujarat National Law University) and GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec City) is almost complete. The stretch, passing through Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), is part of the 28-kilometer Phase 2 Red Line of the Ahmedabad Metro, extending from Koteshwar Road to Mahatma Mandir.
Ahmedabad Metro and GIFT City, both placed at a prominent place in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development narrative, are very important projects. The completion of the stretch marks a significant milestone.
The Ahmedabad Metro project consists of two lines: the Blue Line and the Red Line. The Blue Line (operational since March 4, 2019) has a total length of 21.16 km. The Red Line, which has been partially operational since September 30, 2022, is 18.87 km long. The 5.42 km GNLU-GIFT City branch line is an extension of this Red Line. Phase 2 of the Red Line will be 22.84 km long.
While Phase I, has some underground sections, Phase II consists solely of elevated corridors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Phase II project on April 4, 2019.
