Ahmedabad Cyber crime police caught an international-level tennis player Madhwin Kamath, 22, over allegations that he maliciously pasted posters across the city falsely projecting a 21-year-old woman as a sex worker.
Kamath was playing a tournament in France and when he returned to the city, he had moved an anticipatory bail plea before a local court. On May 20, an additional sessions judge J M Brahmbhatt refused to grant the anticipatory bail with an observation, “As the offence is affecting the dignity of a woman, the present application deserves to be rejected as investigation in the matter is in progress.”
After the court rejected the bail, a team of the Cyber crime police arrested him and he was later given bail on Sunday as the offence was bailable.
Kamath was booked last month under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 469 (forgery to harm reputation) and 509 (intending to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Information Technology Act by the Cybercrime police.
