Gujarat University first choice for only 14K students against 55K seats

With only four days to go for the last day of registration, the Gujarat Common Admission Service (GCAS) portal has seen registration for only 25% of the total seats for Gujarat University. Out of over 55,000 seats, 14,000 students have put Gujarat University as their first choice.

With such numbers, many believe that 40% of seats will stay vacant this year for the university. The principals and heads of departments were called for a meeting over the issue, likely to be held today at the Senate hall.

Seats in Gujarat University
Gujarat University has 15,435 seats in 40 colleges of BA, 29,510 seats in 63 colleges of BCom, 6,813 seats in 28 colleges of BSC, 1,650 seats in 11 colleges of BBA (BS), and 2,040 seats in 15 colleges of BCA (BS) this year. This totals to 55,448 seats.

BCom, BA and BSc have government-granted and private colleges while BBA and BCA have no government-granted college.

Till the evening of May 23, over 14,000 students had picked Gujarat University as their first choice on the registration portal.

Admission process on GCAS
This year, out of 15 universities in the state, students are allowed to pick as many universities as they choose. They will get admission based on merit.

If a student is eligible for admission to multiple universities, they can choose the university/college they have preferred.

The provisional admissions will be declared on June 7. If there are any grievances or objections from students, they will be addressed by June 10. By June 12, final admissions will be updated on the GCAS.

The students will have to confirm the admission and report in person by June 21.
