Ahmedabad and Banaskantha districts too crossed the 44-degree-mark in maximum temperature on Friday.
Ahmedabad reported a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees, which was 1.6 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 31 degrees, which was 3.5 degrees above normal. For Saturday, Ahmedabad is predicted to be at 44 degrees Celsius with clear skies.
Apart from Ahmedabad and Banaskantha at 44 degrees, the highest maximum temperature was reported at Kutch, Gandhinagar and Anand, all reporting 43 degrees. Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Vadodara reported 42 degrees.
After unseasonal rain and thundershowers, the mercury has jumped back to summer levels with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heat waves in several districts. Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Porbandar, Dwarka, Bhavnagar, Kutch, Surat and Valsad. These conditions are predicted to remain for the next five days.
