Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) will construct an underpass near the Ognaj Junction at a cost of Rs 65 crore. The work on this 6-lane underpass is expected to be completed in 2 years. Currently, an average of 70,000 vehicles move through the Ognaj Junction. The construction of the underpass will significantly reduce the traffic load at the junction.
According to the executive engineer of AUDA, the approach length of the underpass will be kept at 741 meters, with 158 meters towards Vaishnodevi and 537 meters towards Science City. The underpass box will be 46 meters long. A PQC service road will be constructed parallel to the underpass, facilitating traffic movement in different directions at the junction.
The SP Ring Road around Ahmedabad spans 76 km. Diversions will be provided for one-and-a-half months after the underpass work begins at the Ognaj Junction. Motorists will need to use Science City Road and the road leading to Vaishnodevi, and a U-turn must be taken where the diversion is provided. New projects for overbridges and underpasses are planned to start after receiving a grant from the Asian Development Bank, which will help reduce the increased traffic load after construction.
In view of the increasing population and traffic load, overbridges and underpasses will be constructed at Bakrol, Hatijan, Ramol, Panjarapol, Nikol, Dastan, Tapovan, Shilaj, and Sindhubhavan junctions in the near future.
