The tyre of an IndiGo flight burst during the landing process on the runway of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport here in the city at around 4 p.m. today.
The affected flight, originating from Bangalore and bound for Ahmedabad, was making the landing when the incident occurred. The sudden tyre burst brought the aircraft to an abrupt halt on the runway. The pilot promptly notified Air Traffic Control (ATC) of the situation. Concurrently, airport authorities sprang into action, activating all necessary emergency protocols to ensure the safety of the passengers.
The incident created panic among the 150 passengers who were onboard the flight. The tyre change process was initiated on the runway itself, but later, in order to prevent disruptions to other flight operations, the affected aircraft was diverted to the taxiway.
IndiGo Flight 6E 6595, originally slated to touch down at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 3:55 pm, experienced a delay of 10 minutes, ultimately landing at 4:05 pm. Due to the tyre burst, the same flight, which was intended to depart for Bangalore at 4:35 p.m. with approximately 175 passengers, faced further delays. The departure of the Bangalore took place at 9:10 p.m. due to the tyre burst incident.
