The Amdavad Municipal Corporation health department carried out random inspections of 656 ice and food processing factories during April 21-27 period and issued notices to 294 of them for unhygienic conditions and for food items unfit for human consumption.
The department also collected 10 samples of edible ice cubes and ice bars and sent it for lab testing. The teams destroyed 882kg of solid food items and 1,130 litres of liquid food items that were found to be unfit for consumption and collected Rs 2.2 lakh in fines. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation statement said that during the same period 86 samples, including edible ice cubes, ice cream, sugarcane juice, packaged juices and bottled drinking water have been collected and sent for the lab test.
