The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall with a chance of thunderstorms across the eastern belt of the state. However, it is likely to abate within the weekend itself.
The IMD on Friday said that rainfall occurred at isolated places over South Gujarat while the weather was dry over the North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch region.
On Friday, while a number of places recorded maximum temperature above the 40-degrees-mark, the highest, at 41.3 degrees, was reported in Ahmedabad. The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad was 27.7 degrees, which was 1.6 degrees above normal.
Gandhinagar too reported a maximum temperature above 41 degrees on Friday.
For Ahmedabad, the IMD predicted partly cloudy skies on Saturday with a maximum temperature of 40 degrees.
As for the reason for the unseasonal rainfall, the IMD stated, “A western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over south Iran and adjoining south Pakistan. Due to this disturbance, a weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued over the eastern belt of Gujarat.”
Light rain are expected at isolated places in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli.
