With an aim to make travel easier for passengers particularly during summer vacation, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has begun offering meals at economic rates on 150 counters across 100 railway stations in India. Of these 5 stations are located on the Western Railway (WR).
Among those on the WR, two are located in Gujarat – Vadodara and Bharuch, two in Maharashtra – Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus, while one is in Rajasthan – Chittorgarh station.
Further, more stations are being identified and will be covered for provision of extended service counters progressively for the availability of the economy meals and water.
The economy meals are priced at a pocket-friendly Rs 20 and snack meals at Rs 50.
The step has been taken to ensure ease of finding meals, especially for passengers in unreserved coaches. This initiative has been undertaken taking into consideration the surge in passenger traffic during the summer months.
